Noelker and Hull Associates, Inc.’s Gettysburg College – College Union Building project is featured in the November/December 2019 American School & University Architectural Portfolio and online at SchoolDesigns.com. An annual competition celebrating architects and education institutions for their achievements in outstanding school and university design, the Architectural Portfolio showcases facilities that excel in their goal of providing innovation and effective environments for learning. The College Union Building was honored for Outstanding Design in Post-Secondary.
Located in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, The College Union Building is a new 27,000-square-foot addition to an existing 45,000-square-foot facility at Gettysburg College. The new facility includes a foodservice operation, kitchen, dining, coffee shop, and social spaces on the first floor and seminar room, career center and leadership center, and student organization offices and work spaces on the second floor with a large atrium connecting the two floors.
The building is opened with extended hours to encourage socializing, events and performances, and studying. The patio outside the dining area can be accessed by “garage doors” to allow students an indoor/outdoor eating experience. The project was designed to achieve LEED Gold certification.
Gettysburg College, a private liberal arts college, offers more than 65 academic programs. The college enrolls about 2,600 students.
