The Monocacy Valley Canning Company (MVCC) is an adaptive-reuse project, with 30,000 SF of office space at a prominent intersection on the main route into downtown Frederick. At the turn of the 20th century one of Frederick’s main industries was the canning of fresh vegetables from local farms. Canneries were centered on a 3×2-block area just to the east of downtown Frederick in an industrial district with easy access to railroads. The former MVCC building forms the nucleus of the MVCC project, with 2015 additions to adapt the brick building to the site. The building is located on an intersection formed when East Street was extended to Interstate 70, and is part of a renaissance on Frederick’s east side where the industrial district is being rapidly transformed to an urban office and technology center, supported by a commuter rail station and the Carroll Creek Linear Urban Park. The MVCC is a three-story structure with new wings branching out from the historic brick core, oriented to the urban streetscape. The rear of the complex faces the rail station and Carroll Creek. Tenants include financial services and technology companies.
