Homewood wished to replace their existing 1940s era, 120-bed skilled nursing facility with the latest thinking in resident based care. Noelker and Hull worked with Homewood to develop a new facility based on the “Small House” concept. There are five 16-bed household pods in a 2-story building. Each household consists of single loaded resident rooms around a common living and dining/country kitchen area. Each of these common areas look into a private green space. The country kitchen also serves as the care base for each household.

A single centrally located nurses’ station serves the entire floor. The two household pods on the first floor are assisted living memory support but can switch to nursing. The rooms are a mixture of single and territorial semi-private rooms. The sixth pod on the first floor contains support functions for the facility.
