Gettysburg College, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, acquired 339 Carlisle Street – a property previously occupied by a fraternity – and restored the building’s exterior and renovated the interiors for academic use. This decision required reorganization of the historic building to provide necessary academic spaces without sacrificing residential quality of the former living quarters. A one-story, rear addition was demolished and expanded to make way for a two-story addition that provides conference facilities, a student lounge, and office, collaboration, and two teaching spaces that function as classrooms and labs.
